Make Your Own Rehydration/Isotonic Drinks!

Unlike the large colon, the small colon doesn't absorb much liquid from food and it's quite easy to get dehydrated when the large colon has been bypassed for an ileostomy stoma. Not as much salt is absorbed either. Here's a recipe for a rehydration drink which also replaces sodium and carbohydrates:

6 x 5ml level spoons glucose powder
1 x 5ml level spoon salt
1 x 2.5ml heaped spoon sodium bicarb
1 litre water
Squash to flavour

Chemists have Glucose Powder and measuring spoons.
