Di's Special Stoma Diet: Heroes and Villains

These things help stop my bag get too watery, because they contain fibre or gelatine.
Bananas
Peanut Butter
Marshmallows
Wagon Wheels
Apple Sauce
Fruit Jellies
Jelly Babies
Haribo Sours
Yoghurt
Avocado
Pork Pies (especially Bray's Cottage!)

These things help me rehydrate

Decaff drinks
Marmite with hot water/Bovril
Rehydration Solution (recipe on separate blog page)
Drinking at least half an hour before or after eating
A packet of crisps (replaces salts which help the colon absorb liquid)

I can't digest raw veg - it blocks the stoma - but these things mean I can eat salad

Skinned, Seeded Cucumber ( there ain't much of it left!)
Cooked Beetroot
Cooked French Beans
Asparagus
Artichoke Hearts
Peeled Apple

These things can make my bag watery (because the small colon can't extract much water from food)

Tea/coffee with milk
Milk (I put marshmallows in hot milk to bulk it up)
Drinking at the same time as eating rather than 30 minutes before or after

These things help me put on weight

Cream Cakes
Full Fat Milk
Pork Pies
Baby Bel Cheeses

These things help my body recover from the ops

Chicken
Beef
Milk
Cheese

These things have too much fibre

Celery
Mushroom
Sweet Corn
Coconut
Seeded/Grained Bread
Vegetables not cooked to destruction

The bag has a filter to help stop it ballooning with gas but if there's too much it can't cope and these things give me agonising wind (I cant pump!)

Cabbage

Fizzy Drinks
Chewing Gum
All Pulses (that includes humous boohoo)
Beer/Guinness - even if flat it's still got yeast in; Ouch
